When we think of the holidays most of us think of snow, Santa Claus & Rudolph, mistletoe, Christmas trees and glowing lights. Of course, I didn’t mention Christmas gifts, but some things are obvious, as a matter of fact, in recent times, many people have given plants and other decorative items as gifts. This crossover or multi-purposing of items seems to please both the giver and the receiver.
One of the favorite things to give in this manner is Christmas Flowers and plants. After all, lots of people enjoy house plants and even more love to decorate for the holidays. It just makes sense that a plant would be the perfect Christmas gift!
One of the reasons people like giving flowers is that it is easy. All they have to do is go to the website and place an order. The most popular choice for Christmas plant gift-giving is the beautiful Poinsettias. It’s easy to see why people would appreciate getting the Christmas Flower – it’s absolutely gorgeous!
Of course, many people that receive the Christmas plant are not necessarily plant savvy people. That can mean that they are somewhat intimidated about how to care for the plant because after all, they want to keep their plant looking good and keep the blooms for as long as possible. The good news is that the plants are not difficult to care for. Plus, if cared for properly, the blooms can be enjoyed for several months past the holiday season.
But this depends on a few vital things – primarily that when the plant is purchased it is healthy. To determine this it is a good idea to look for a plant that has lots of luscious dark green leaves and several brightly colored flowers that are completely opened. The coloring of the leaves helps to indicate health and having the flowers fully opened means enjoyment of the plant can begin immediately. These plants are slow to bloom but when they do the blooms stay for several weeks.
It is important to protect these wonderful plants from cold temperatures and wind. It’s also important that the plants be kept away from sources of heat because the best temperature for them is between 65 and 70 degrees. When it comes to watering the plants they should be watered thoroughly but the soil should be allowed to dry between watering.
If you choose, the plant can even be planted outdoors in late springtime. Be sure to bring it back inside before the temperatures begin to drop again so you can enjoy your awesome holiday plant for another Christmas season.
